Individual Therapy

I work one-on-one with adults in a safe, caring, and confidential environment to help facilitate change and improve quality of life. I work collaboratively with clients to set goals and discover new resources on their path of healing. I utilize a strength-based approach to therapy and I work collaboratively with clients to promote healing. Utilizing self-compassion, I help clients better understand themselves, their needs, and aspirations. Some of the many topics commonly addressed in individual therapy are: self-esteem, anxiety, depression, compassion fatigue, unresolved trauma, relationship issues, stress management, grief and loss, life transitions, and parenting. I do not provide couples/marriage counseling.

Law Enforcement/First Responder and Workplace Secondary Trauma
Exposure to trauma is an occupational hazard for first responders and medical professionals alike, and as such, it is vital to practice self-care and know the signs that trauma is taking a toll. According to the Trauma Center of the Justice Resource Institute, the effects of exposure to trauma are cumulative. The longer one has worked as a first responder or anyone in the care giving role, the more likely they are to have a reaction to trauma. Compassion Fatigue can manifest itself in many ways, including physical, emotional, behavioral, and spiritual changes and it can also affect people who work in a variety of job roles. As someone who has spent several years working in the high stress environment of an Emergency Department, I am able to understand the unique challenges and provide the necessary therapeutic services to people who have experienced trauma due to their profession.

Peer Support Clinical Supervisor & Training
I’m currently contracted with multiple law enforcement and fire agencies along the Western Slope to provide individual therapy for agency employees as well as conduct trainings and provide clinical supervision for their Peer Support Teams. As a member of the Peer Support Team, I provide critical incident debriefings to the agency and support agency employees when necessary. I also provide a 40-Hour Peer Support Training for new peer support members. The focus of this service is to minimize the harmful effects of job stress, particularly in crisis or emergency situations.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is a powerful psychotherapy technique which has been very successful in helping people who suffer from trauma, anxiety, panic, disturbing memories, post traumatic stress and many other emotional problems. Until recently, these conditions were difficult and time-consuming to treat. EMDR is considered a breakthrough therapy because of its simplicity and the fact that it can bring quick and lasting relief for most types of emotional distress. EMDR is the most effective and rapid method for healing PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) as shown by extensive scientific research studies. (for more information about research on EMDR, go to www.emdria.org.)
